Space Technologies and Satellite Systems Department
is responsible for projects and commitments of the Czech Republic supporting the implementation of its space activities within the European Union in the framework of the Czech Ministry of Transport. Wide range of department activities is managed by these units:
European Space Agency Matters and Space Programmes Unit
- Concepts and strategic documents concerning space technologies corresponding with the European Space Policy and the European Space Agency (ESA)
Galileo, ITS and GMES Unit
- Preparation, management and user coordination of the the European satellite navigation
- Integration of navigation and communication technologies into transport structures
Development of the Czech Space Sector is closely tied with strategies of the European Union, with the European Space Policy and European Space Agency. The Space Technologies and Satellite System Department represents the Ministry of Transport in negotiations in the EU, ESA and other relevant international government organizations regarding issues related to national space activities. In this framework also cooperates with other ministries and state authorities of the Czech Republic.
Ministry of Transport holds a government mandate for the coordination of activities of the Czech Republic in the European Galileo satellite navigation program, which follows from the fact, that in the focus of his interests are primarily projects relating to development and traffic safety. These projects are related to the development of space technologies for the transport and navigation, or to space technologies originally developed for other activities which have been transferred to the transport sector.
One of the most applied transport technologies associated with astronautics are global positioning satellite systems and other technologies connected to them, which significantly increase the efficiency and safety of road, air and water transport. These technologies currently rank to an area of economic activities with the highest potential for innovation and represent a springboard to drive Czech economy’s competitiveness and prosperity.
The general objective of the department is to create conditions for the development of national space sector and the broad and effective involvement of public authorities, scientific and industrial organizations, professional and general public in the projects cocncerning space activities in the Czech Republic.
